I drive a 2004 Camry with 245k miles. I love it. Today I saw the same year and model Camry with 160k miles on Facebook Marketplace for a mere $3400. I'd say anyone could afford this car. Yet people feel they HAVE to buy a new car. It's an identity issue more than an affordability.

All those used car websites are rip-offs. My dad got too old to drive. He owned a 5 yo model year car. We took it to car max. They quoted us online a higher sale value. Then when u bring it in and they low ball u. 90 yr old gents , grew up without cars. They treat it (the car) better than their wives. So the car max low balling knocked my socks off. I'm already overwhelmed, caring for an elderly wwII vet (US Navy Okinawa) dad. With multiple ailments. So, I did not have time or energy, to sell it myself. Plus homebound seniors aren't happy to see a parade of strangers. Coming by looking at his love for driving (he could not drive Drs Orders). So Car Max won and resold the same type of vehicle for thousands more. Nice, they ripped off, Vet's, the Elderly and their overwhelmed offspring. Real Nice ! I shed no tears for "Car Maximus Prime" 🤖 ! 😮😅😂

This is just another aspect of the economy that is disappointing. Some people in urban areas might own cars, but they do get services provided by cars and this will impact the prices of their goods. While the official government number is 3%, actual inflation seems much higher to me just seeing prices at the local stores.

Everybody should wait. We still have the inflated prices caused by the pandemic’s disruption of the supply chain. With the supply chain sorted and settled, car manufacturers need to adjust back more in line with where they would have been without the disruption. Right now, they are only down compared to their numbers last year. And that’s with sales MUCH lower than before. Bring prices back to reasonable levels and they will sell more units and get revenue back on trajectory. Until they adjust, sales NEED to stay down.

Stop putting the blame on interest rates. They were so low for so years, it allowed car manufacturers to raise prices. I totally agree with you. Car prices are ridiculous.

It sounds like Turo is playing like Lyft & Uber… Uber wouldn’t even consider my car for Black and Black SUV. Even though my car is a 7 passenger, beautiful 2019 Volkswagen, Atlas black on black, that looks like a brand new car because in my past life I own a auto detail company. That said that the current time a year and a half ago when I bought my Volkswagen atlas lift would consider my car eligible for their black and black SUV category and I used to make some pretty good money with that because in addition, they had what they call a Lyft Lux. That’s now gone altogether… Anyway, I got an email telling me that my car no longer qualified for lift XL,Lyft Lux, Lyft black, and Lyft black SUV. It was the same as getting fired from your job. The next day I was down in the first category of Lyft, being offered 3 to 7 dollar rides right along with the guys who drive 10-year-old Honda’s and just got a drivers license. Thanks to the open border policy our government has so eagerly embraced. Therefore I’m online learning how to become an online marketer, and I will be reaching out to the gig workers and especially the Lyft and Uber drivers because now they’re just wasting their time. With the advent of so many drivers on every corner Lyft and Uber don’t need to pay hardly any money to satisfy the appetite of their riders. sounds like too. Many people are also in your market and Turo had to exclude a number of vehicles, because there was an over saturation. Too many people getting cars and trying to make money with Turo….

Sounds like Touro is taking a page out of Uber and Lyft Playbook. And that is to come up with undefinable rules to keep everybody on their heels, and in the case of Rideshare pay their drivers slave wages.
