The problem is not just the price for a used car but that new auto makers demanded our govt make a loans percentage rate 12% + for a used car because they didn’t like the competition but it has nothing to do with worker pay and the destruction of Unions and over taxing the middle class nope none of that!!! 😂

Carmax sells used cars at new car prices.

Reducing the number of available cars would be good in general. UBER also got more selective in its product and pretty much stopped giving good jobs to drivers who did not show full commitment. Also, if someone gets into a fatal accident with a poorly maintained car then Turo will be liable. This is all fine.

Maybe they need to build expensive and needless car vending machines.

They need to collude with their competitors to raise prices to meet their earnings goals.

CarMax has priced themselves out of the market.

Bought a vehicle from Carvana recently. It was the easiest car purchase I've ever made. Everything was straight forward, there wasn't any haggling, the prices were acceptable, and I found what I was looking for easily. Also, Carvana's selection is far and away the largest out there. At Carvana I could find dozens of the model and trim I wanted to pick from. None of the local Toyota dealers had more than two on the lot. The dealership will contact other dealers to find you what you want, but then will charge you a bunch of money to get it shipped to them and refuses to tell you what other dealer has what you are looking for so you can just go buy it from them instead. The only thing I didn't care for was a delivery charge option for $1500 or $2000, which I didn't go with. Get someone to drive you the 45 miles and save the trip charge, like I did.

1 time someone booked my car when I was asleep. Pick up was at like 2am I was like obviously asleep. Got hit with no show and person was compensated my hours are from 8am to 12am and it’s worked fine

Only those with bad credit go to Car Max If you buy from a private owner you need cash not a loan so this is a sign of a weak economy because anyone with cash just buys it 30% cheaper from a private owner with zero interest. Telling anyone to buy a car like this is bad financial advice. Only buy what you can pay for now not later.

I don't feel sorry for the car companies or dealers, they ripped off their customers during COVID-19, which means those buyers that bought vehicles probably overpaid MSRP, which means their vehicles are underwater, leaving those buyers owing more on the loan than the vehicle is worth or in other words out of the market

My local Carmax was overflowing with inventory. Parking lot full of cars and then cars parked in driveways. Most vehicle prices were 5-10% higher than other places.

Carmax lists a 2012 Toyota Tacoma with 90k miles for $24,000. This is a literal 12 year old truck for MORE than msrp when it sold new. Kelly blue book rates $15-17K as the "good" prices. Unless Carmax comes down and even plays ball in the Blue book valuations I can't/won't ever deal with them. A local dealer literally googled the truck I was looking at and said "we aren't far off from what others are listing it at". There was no negotiation, no consideration of the fact the car had an accident, nothing devalued the car. Guess what. It's still sitting on their lot months later.

They offer the most for cars but they also overcharge by a large amount as well. Their loan rates are much higher than any other bank as well.

Thank you Aubrey for the always clear update on the car market! Even used cars are ridiculously priced, but the prices are falling slowly. I'll bet my ability to keep my old car running will outlast many of these dealer's ability to stay in business.

Aubrey, thanks for your insight! The predator mindset of the Dealerships have kept me away. We have own a older Honda and an older Mustang which is my ride.

My wife pushed me into financing two new cars. I still love her. I like the car she bought me. It’s a Chevy Bolt EUV. Actually I love the car she bought me.

They just seized the opportunity during Covid to gouge everybody (and we let them, like sheep). They don't want to stop.

This is what happens when the materialistic society brainwashed people into thinking new is always better. I still drive a 2010 Ford Taurus that I bought for $3,400 cash in 2020, with 148k miles. It almost has 200k miles now and still running strong with hust regular maintenance. Many people look down on me because I refuse to buy a new car that I don’t need. Majority of those people still have car notes or repos. 🤦🏿‍♂️ The idea of “fitting in and keeping up with Joneses” is keeping a lot Americans in debt and unhappy.
